What is pancreatic cancer?
Pancreatic cancer is a tumor that develops
in the pancreas.
The pancreas is an organ behind the stomach
that helps you digest food by making digestive
enzymes.
It makes hormones such as insulin and glucagon
that helps to balance blood sugar.
Pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect
early.
Often a person has symptoms such as back pain,
weight loss, jaundice, or recent diagnosis of
diabetes, but because the pancreas is deep
inside the body, the doctor cannot see or feel
tumors during a routine physical exam.
The conventional treatments for pancreatic
cancer are surgery, radiation therapy, and
chemotherapy, and depending on the stage of the
cancer, more than one of these treatments are
often used.
