Contrary to what many believe cancer is on the
rise, despite the trillions and trillions of
dollars around the world that's spent on cancer
research, recent reports suggest that as many
as one in three people will have cancer in
their lifetime, this needs to
change.
There are over 100 types of cancer, and each is
classified by the cell that was affected at the
beginning.
It happens when these damaged cells divide
beyond control to form lumps called
tumors.
Tumors that grow can interfere with the
digestive, nervous, and circulatory systems,
and they may release hormones that alter your
usual body functions.
Those that stay static and in one place and
also demonstrate limited growth are mostly
considered to be benign tumors.
The more harmful or malignant tumors happen
when the following occurs.
When a cancer cell manages to move throughout
the body using the blood/lymph systems,
destroying previously healthy tissue, this
process is called Invasion.
The cancer cell manages to divide and grow,
thus making its own new blood vessels to feed
itself, this is the process Angiogenesis.
When a tumor manages to spread to other areas
of the body it can grow larger, invading and
destroying healthy tissues, a process called
"Metastasis", this is a serious condition,
therefore more difficult to treat.
Early detection of any cancer is
important.
